Co-operative Stores to Open in Delhi Starting New Year

By Chandan Singh | Page 3 News Worldwide | New Delhi

New Delhi – The Delhi Government is set to position the national capital as the country’s central hub for cooperation, according to Shri Ravinder Indraj Singh, Minister for Cooperation, Social Welfare, SC/ST/OBC Welfare, and Elections. The announcement was made during the inauguration of “Sahakar Haat,” an event organized by NABARD at the State Emporia Complex.

Minister Singh highlighted that the government’s primary objectives are to increase the income of people involved in cooperative efforts, provide robust marketing support, and promote self-reliance across the sector. “Cooperatives are the backbone of India’s economic and social empowerment,” said Shri Ravinder Indraj Singh. “The Delhi Government is committed to taking the cooperative movement to new heights.”

In his address, the Minister emphasized the significance of the national vision of “Sahakar se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that this vision has become a nationwide movement that has significantly strengthened the cooperative sector.

“People involved in cooperatives will play a key role in realizing India’s goal of becoming a Developed Nation by 2047,” Singh added. He stressed that the empowerment of farmers, artisans, and small entrepreneurs is critical to the country’s progress and self-reliance.

Shri Ravinder Indraj further stated that Delhi, not only being the nation’s capital, is also a major consumer market. The Delhi Government plans to use this market advantage by providing platforms to promote cooperative products from across the country. Effective marketing of these products will benefit cooperatives nationwide, especially in sectors such as agriculture, handloom, and handicrafts.

In a major initiative, the Delhi Government plans to open modern co-operative stores in housing societies across the capital. These stores, set to open from the New Year, will provide cooperative members with better market access and opportunities to showcase a range of products.

Additionally, the Minister announced the development of a digital platform where individuals associated with cooperatives can register and market their products. This platform will enable small entrepreneurs and those previously outside the cooperative system to join the movement and gain access to wider markets.

Shri Ravinder Indraj also revealed that Delhi is home to over 2,000 cooperative societies. However, he criticized past governments for neglecting these societies and cooperative banks. As part of efforts to revitalize the sector, the Delhi Government is undertaking legal amendments to strengthen cooperatives and enhance transparency. Ongoing discussions with NABARD are focused on improving the banking structure, credit societies, and other cooperative institutions.

“The Sahakar Haat event is a testament to the strength and reach of the cooperative movement,” the Minister said. “This platform will offer opportunities and encouragement to farmers, artisans, and cooperative entrepreneurs, creating a brighter future for India’s cooperative sector.”

With these bold steps, the Delhi Government is signaling its commitment to creating a cooperative ecosystem that fosters growth, sustainability, and self-reliance for people across India.
