At least seven people, including two children, lost their lives and 33 others were injured as heavy rain, strong winds and lightning wreaked havoc across Pakistan’s north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province over the past 24 hours.

International Desk: Severe weather conditions continued to lash Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, leaving seven people dead and 33 injured in a series of rain-related incidents, according to provincial disaster management authorities.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said heavy downpours, gusty winds and lightning strikes triggered the collapse of roofs and walls in the districts of Bannu, Shangla and Mansehra. The fatalities included four men, two children and one woman.

Officials reported that at least 33 people sustained injuries in the incidents, while several homes suffered damage.

Meanwhile, the PDMA has issued an alert over the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in the province’s upper mountainous regions. Authorities warned that rising temperatures combined with continued rainfall are accelerating glacier melt, heightening the threat of sudden flash floods.

Residents have been advised to stay away from riverbanks, streams and other vulnerable areas prone to strong water currents. District administrations have been directed to maintain round-the-clock monitoring of sensitive zones, issue timely warnings and ensure evacuation arrangements are in place to minimise potential loss of life and property.
