Washington/Quetta: The Republic of Balochistan has strongly criticized recent remarks attributed to the United States administration suggesting that a “strong Pakistan is good for America,” arguing that such a policy risks emboldening what it describes as an oppressive and destabilizing state apparatus.
In a statement issued on June 5, the Republic of Balochistan questioned whether Washington supports efforts by China to strengthen Pakistan through multi-billion-dollar investments in Balochistan, which it claims were made without the consent of the Baloch people. The statement alleged that Pakistan’s military and intelligence establishment has been responsible for widespread human rights abuses in Balochistan, including enforced disappearances, political repression, civilian killings, and the exploitation of the region’s natural resources.
The group further accused Pakistan of pursuing policies that have destabilized the wider region and claimed that international support for Islamabad has enabled continued control over what it described as the “occupied” territory of Balochistan.
Expressing concern over the Trump administration’s engagement with Pakistan’s leadership, the statement alleged that Balochistan’s mineral wealth and strategic assets are being used without the consent of the Baloch people. It also warned the United States against following what it called China’s path of resource exploitation in the region.
Calling for a reassessment of Washington’s approach toward Islamabad, the Republic of Balochistan urged the United States to support human rights, accountability, and the aspirations of the Baloch people rather than strengthening Pakistan’s military establishment.
The statement concluded by asserting that a free Balochistan would seek constructive relations with regional and global powers, while cautioning that continued support for Pakistan could generate public opposition within Balochistan.
