London/Quetta: A prominent Baloch nationalist figure, Hyrbyair Marri, has called on the United States to support the right to statehood for what he described as “occupied nations” within Iran, arguing that such a move would significantly reduce regional instability around the Strait of Hormuz.
In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter), Marri claimed that Washington must better understand what he termed the “systematic colonisation” of multiple ethnic groups by Iran. He asserted that recognising the independence of Baloch, Kurdish and Ahwazi Arab populations would “streamline tranquility in the region for the foreseeable future”.
Marri argued that independent states north of the Strait of Hormuz would mirror the relative stability of Gulf nations to the south, which he described as peaceful and not prone to conflict. “If these nations were allowed to run themselves, there would be no ambitions of regional bullying or world domination,” he wrote.
He further accused Iran of exploiting natural resources in these regions to serve its own strategic interests, warning that tensions would persist as long as such control continues. According to Marri, the creation of sovereign states would eliminate what he characterised as destabilising geopolitical alliances and power blocs.
The remarks are likely to provoke strong reactions, particularly given the sensitivity surrounding territorial integrity in the Middle East. Tehran has consistently rejected allegations of internal colonisation and maintains that it governs a unified, sovereign state.
Marri’s comments come amid continuing geopolitical strain in the Gulf region, where the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global energy chokepoint.
