Baloch Activists Claim Future Control of Gwadar and Chabahar Ports

London: A Baloch nationalist figure has claimed that a future “Republic of United Balochistan” would establish full sovereignty over its territory, airspace and coastal waters, including the strategically significant ports of Gwadar and Chabahar along the Makran coast near the Gulf of Oman.

In a statement released on 10 March, the activist said the proposed state would control key maritime and energy routes once Balochistan gains authority over its coastline and natural resources. The Makran coast lies close to one of the world’s most important shipping corridors linking Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

The statement suggested that countries supporting the Baloch cause would find a future Baloch state to be a “reliable and strategic ally”. It also proposed that supportive nations could receive preferential access to maritime trade and energy resources through Balochistan once sovereignty is achieved.

The message framed the region’s ports and maritime potential as central to future global energy routes, arguing that control by a sovereign Balochistan could improve the security and efficiency of shipping in the Arabian Sea.

Baloch nationalist groups have long advocated independence from Pakistan, though such claims remain highly contested and the region continues to be under Pakistani administration.
