On the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated a series of Water ATMs in Shalimar Bagh, marking a significant step towards ensuring access to clean drinking water for residents.
The newly launched facilities, located in GP Block and Beriwala Bagh Block of the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency, aim to deliver safe and affordable drinking water at the community level. The initiative pays tribute to B. R. Ambedkar, whose vision of social justice and equal access to basic amenities continues to guide governance.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister stated that the Constitution framed by Dr Ambedkar guarantees fundamental rights, including access to essential services. She emphasised that the Water ATM project is a concrete step towards realising that constitutional promise.
Highlighting the scale of the initiative, Ms Gupta noted that seven Water ATMs have been installed across wards 55, 56 and 57. These units are designed to supply up to 2,000 litres of purified water per hour, ensuring consistent availability for local households.
Equipped with advanced 5-stage reverse osmosis (RO) technology, the systems can purify water with Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels of up to 3000. The units will be monitored кругл-the-clock to maintain quality and efficiency. Residents will be able to access up to 20 litres of drinking water per person per day using dedicated Water ATM cards.
The initiative is expected to significantly improve access to safe drinking water in the area, particularly benefiting communities that face challenges with water quality and supply.
