Chandigarh/Amritsar: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Punjab Police’s Amritsar Rural unit arrested three alleged drug traffickers, including a woman, and seized 6.5 kg of heroin, ₹9.90 lakh in suspected drug money, and a Hyundai Creta vehicle used in the operations.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the arrests were made after busting two separate narcotics networks as part of the Punjab government’s ongoing drive against drug trafficking. He said investigators are now working to establish both the forward and backward linkages of the networks to identify accomplices and dismantle the entire supply chain.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shamsher Singh alias Shera, Charanjit Kaur alias Sharanjit Kaur, both residents of Bachiwind village in Amritsar, and Jasvinder Singh of Rayya.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said police intercepted Shamsher Singh and Charanjit Kaur at a checkpoint near Ajnala while they were travelling in a Hyundai Creta. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 6 kg of heroin.
In a separate operation in the Rayya area, police arrested Jasvinder Singh and recovered 510 grams of heroin along with ₹9.90 lakh in suspected drug proceeds. Officials said further arrests and recoveries are expected as the investigation progresses.
Two cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered at Ajnala and Beas police stations. Police said the investigation remains underway to trace the broader drug trafficking network and identify all those involved.
