Ravinder Indraj Singh felicitates Arjuna Award-winning kabaddi star at civic ceremony organised by Samast Delhi Dehat and Delhi Jat Samaj
New Delhi: Delhi Cabinet Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh felicitated Arjuna Award-winning Indian kabaddi player Pawan Sehrawat at a grand civic ceremony organised by Samast Delhi Dehat and Delhi Jat Samaj, praising his sporting achievements and describing him as an inspiration for the country’s youth.
Singh, who represents Bawana in the Delhi Assembly and holds the Social Welfare, SC/ST/OBC Welfare, Cooperation and Elections portfolios, said Sehrawat had brought pride to India through his exceptional talent, discipline, hard work and determination.
The Minister highlighted Sehrawat’s achievements at the Asian Games, noting that he had won gold medals at two consecutive editions of the continental sporting event. According to the press note, Sehrawat was captain of India’s men’s kabaddi team that won gold at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, and vice-captain of the team that secured gold at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. His role as India’s flagbearer at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Games was also a special honour, Singh said.
Describing kabaddi as an integral part of India’s traditional sporting culture, the Minister said players such as Sehrawat had helped raise the sport’s profile at national and international levels through their dedication and performances.
“His success demonstrates that Indian athletes can bring glory to the country on the world stage through determination, discipline and consistent practice,” Singh said.
He added that civic felicitation ceremonies provided an opportunity for society to recognise the achievements of sportspersons and encourage young people to participate in sports, maintain physical fitness and pursue excellence.
According to the Minister, sports contribute to more than medal-winning performances, helping young people develop self-confidence, leadership, teamwork and a sense of commitment to the nation.
Singh also highlighted the contribution of Delhi’s rural areas to Indian sports, saying they had produced numerous talented athletes who had brought recognition to the country. He said Sehrawat’s achievements were a particular source of inspiration for young people in the region.
Congratulating the kabaddi player, the Minister expressed confidence that Sehrawat would continue to take Indian kabaddi to greater heights and bring further laurels to the country.
The ceremony was attended by Member of Parliament Yogendra Chandolia, North-West District BJP president Vinod Sehrawat, Delhi Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, Rithala MLA Kulwant Rana, Mundka MLA Gajendra Daral, Narela MLA Raj Karan Khatri, municipal councillors Anju Aman Dabas and Deepak Dabas, along with other dignitaries and community representatives.
