Chandigarh/Amritsar, September 15: Commissionerate Police Amritsar has dismantled three alleged drug and illegal arms supply networks, arresting eight persons and recovering 9.549 kg heroin, 5.459 kg opium and an illegal .30-bore pistol, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.
The arrests were made as part of the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state, being undertaken under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the DGP said.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rajinder Singh (27), a resident of Indira Colony, Amritsar; Vinay (26) of Gawal Mandi, Amritsar; Pradeep Singh (37) of Varnali Harsha Chhina village in Amritsar; Karan Singh alias Karan (24), Navneet alias Keeda (18) and Jashandeep Singh alias Dhuni (19), all residents of Attari village; Baljinder Singh (37) of Baba Budha Singh Colony, Amritsar; and Amrit Pal Singh alias Amrit (25) of Boparai Baaz Singh village in Amritsar Rural.
According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigations have allegedly established that the accused were linked to foreign-based smugglers and received consignments of heroin, opium and illegal arms through drones for further distribution.
Police have also established links between the arrested accused and other associates allegedly involved in the supply network. The DGP said further investigation was underway to trace the complete backward and forward linkages, identify other persons involved and dismantle the wider drug and illegal arms trafficking network.
Giving details of the first operation, Commissioner of Police Amritsar Harmanbir Singh Gill said police, acting on specific information, arrested Rajinder Singh and recovered a .30-bore pistol from his possession.
During interrogation, his alleged associate Vinay was arrested, leading to the recovery of 4.2 kg of opium. Based on Vinay’s disclosure, police subsequently arrested Pradeep Singh and recovered another 1.2 kg of opium from his possession.
In the second operation, police, acting on secret information, arrested Karan Singh alias Karan and recovered 7 kg of heroin, the CP said. During the subsequent investigation, his alleged associates Navneet Singh alias Keeda and Jashandeep Singh alias Dhunni were also arrested.
In the third operation, police arrested Baljinder Singh and Amritpal Singh alias Amrit on specific information and recovered 2.5 kg of heroin and a motorcycle from their possession, CP Harmanbir Gill said.
Three cases have been registered in connection with the operations. These include FIR No. 166 dated September 10, 2026, under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Sections 18-B and 29 of the NDPS Act at Cantonment police station; FIR No. 132 dated September 11, 2026, under Sections 21-C and 29 of the NDPS Act at A-Division police station; and FIR No. 211 dated September 12, 2026, under Sections 21, 21-C and 29 of the NDPS Act at Chheharta police station in Amritsar.
CP Harmanbir Singh Gill said further investigation into the cases is ongoing.
