Chandigarh/Amritsar, September 7: Amritsar Rural Police has busted an alleged cross-border narcotics and illegal arms smuggling module with the arrest of two persons and the recovery of 15 illegal pistols and 5kg of heroin, Punjab Police said on Monday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Deepak Singh, a resident of Rorawala Khurd, and Shubhpreet Singh alias Shubh, a resident of Verka-Majitha Bypass in Amritsar.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said a preliminary investigation indicated that the accused were allegedly in contact with foreign-based handlers and were receiving consignments of illegal arms and drugs for onward supply in the region as directed by them.
The DGP said further investigation was underway to establish the complete forward and backward linkages of the case, identify other persons involved and dismantle the wider arms and drug trafficking network.
Sharing details of the operation, IGP Border Range Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said police at Gharinda police station received reliable information that two suspects allegedly involved in pistol and heroin smuggling were moving in the Attari area.
Acting on the information, a police team set up a checkpoint at the Dhussi Bandh T-point on the Attari-Jhabal Road and intercepted two persons travelling on an Activa scooter. During a search, police recovered 15 pistols and 5kg heroin from Shubhpreet Singh and Deepak Singh, who was riding pillion.
SSP Amritsar Rural Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said interrogation of the two arrested accused had led police to identify two more persons allegedly involved in the module. Raids are underway to apprehend them.
A case, FIR No. 388 dated September 6, 2026, has been registered at Gharinda police station under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act and Section 25(8) of the Arms Act.
