New Delhi: The newly reconstituted National Commission for Minorities (NCM) held its first meeting for 2026 on Thursday under the chairmanship of NCM Chairman Harjit Singh Grewal.
The meeting was attended by Vice Chairperson S. Munawari Begum, Members Berjis Desai and Glenn E Souza Ticlo, along with NCM Secretary Suchindra Misra, Joint Secretary Dr Atya Nand and other Commission officials.
The Commission reviewed matters concerning the welfare and interests of minority communities and deliberated on issues placed before it for consideration. Members also exchanged views on the Commission’s ongoing activities and discussed the way forward on pending matters.
Chairman Harjit Singh Grewal underlined the Commission’s mandate to work for the development of minority communities and monitor the implementation of safeguards aimed at protecting their interests.
The meeting marked the beginning of the newly reconstituted Commission’s work for 2026, with discussions focused on ongoing responsibilities, pending matters and the way ahead for minority welfare.
