New Delhi: Artificial intelligence, digital transformation and learner-centred technology took centre stage as D2L, a global learning technology company, brought together more than 100 higher education leaders, educators and innovators from across India at the D2L Connection: New Delhi event.
Held on September 24 at the Shangri-La Eros New Delhi, the event explored the evolving higher education landscape and the role of technology in creating flexible, engaging and future-ready learning experiences. Discussions focused on preparing students for the workforce, empowering faculty, strengthening quality and enhancing the global competitiveness of institutions.
Participants discussed the growing importance of artificial intelligence and digital transformation, with academic and technology leaders examining how institutions can move from experimentation towards practical and responsible applications of AI. The discussions also highlighted the need to prepare faculty, promote critical thinking, strengthen assessment practices and equip students with skills and adaptability for a rapidly changing world.
Accreditation readiness emerged as another key theme. Leaders discussed the importance of moving beyond periodic evidence collection and embedding continuous quality improvement into everyday teaching and learning. Digital learning environments can help institutions connect curriculum delivery, assessment, learner engagement and outcomes while providing greater visibility for informed decision-making.
The event also examined the continued growth of online and blended learning in India. Technology, participants noted, can help institutions scale education, support faculty and provide consistent and engaging learning experiences across diverse academic models.
A key highlight was the Learner Experience Session, where a student shared firsthand how D2L Brightspace supported their higher education journey. The session placed the learner perspective at the heart of discussions and underlined the importance of measuring digital transformation through its impact on engagement, confidence, progress and student success.
“The conversations at the event have given us a great deal to reflect on, but the dialogue should not stop here. As the higher education landscape continues to evolve, it is important that we continue these conversations and explore how we can collectively shape what comes next,” said Vivek Iyer, Managing Director, India, D2L.
The event concluded with a call for continued dialogue and collaboration across the higher education ecosystem as institutions respond to changing learner expectations, evolving workforce requirements and the growing importance of global competitiveness.
D2L said the New Delhi event builds on its commitment to supporting Indian institutions across campus, online and blended learning, with a focus on personalised learning experiences, empowering educators, supporting learners and scaling high-quality education.
