Dalhousie, 18 August (Ajay Puri, Rajeshwar Behl)
The Tibetan community of Dalhousie organised a peaceful bike rally on Tuesday to express solidarity with Lobga Rangzen. The rally was flagged off by youth leader Vikram Singh Jaryal from Dalhousie and proceeded towards Chamba.
The rally was jointly organised by the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Regional Tibetan Women Association and Regional Middle Way Approach, Dalhousie. Members of the Tibetan community participated in the rally and expressed solidarity with Rangzen while drawing attention to issues concerning Tibet.
According to the organisers, Lobga Rangzen reportedly died following self-immolation near the United Nations Office in New York on July 2, 2026. The organisers said the rally was being held to honour his memory and highlight their concerns regarding the situation of Tibetans in Tibet and policies of the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
After reaching Chamba, the participants took out a peaceful protest march through Chowgan Market before gathering at Chowgan Ground. The programme included the singing of the Tibetan and Indian national anthems, addresses by community representatives and invited speakers, and peaceful slogans.
A symbolic hair-cutting programme was also organised as an expression of protest against policies concerning Tibet.
The organisers emphasised that the entire rally and protest programme was conducted peacefully and aimed at expressing solidarity and raising awareness about the concerns of the Tibetan community.
