Bodh Gaya: More than 120 novices and nuns from diverse backgrounds were ordained beneath the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi Tree at the Mahabodhi Temple complex on July 7 as the Thai Dhammaduta Mission inaugurated the second batch of its month-long Dhamma-Kammatthana Study and Ordination Programme. Led by Most Venerable Phra Phrom Wachirapothiwong, the ceremony marked the candidates’ initial vinaya commitment and the beginning of an intensive course in Buddhist doctrine, meditation and monastic discipline.
The programme, directed by Phra Ratchapothiwithet Wachiramuni, combines study of the Visuddhimagga with guided meditation, Pāli chanting, community service and daily dhamma instruction under senior Thai and Indian mentors. Following the solemn investiture of robes beneath the Bodhi Tree, participants are scheduled to receive full ordination on July 14, in a move organisers say will strengthen spiritual renewal and deepen ties between Theravāda communities across national boundaries.
