New Delhi: In a major push to improve road safety ahead of the monsoon, the Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) on Sunday carried out a special city-wide pothole repair drive, targeting over 2,000 identified potholes across the capital in a single day. PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh personally inspected repair works at multiple locations, reviewing progress and directing officials to ensure timely completion.
Despite it being a Sunday, engineers, maintenance teams and field staff remained on duty across Delhi to undertake repairs before the arrival of heavy rains, underscoring the government’s focus on commuter safety and uninterrupted road connectivity.
According to PWD data, 14,757 potholes were identified on department-maintained roads between January 1 and June 4, 2026. Of these, 12,762 had already been repaired, while the remaining identified locations were taken up under Sunday’s intensive repair campaign.
Inspecting the works, Minister said the department remains vigilant throughout the year in addressing road maintenance issues, with special emphasis on ensuring roads are in the best possible condition before the monsoon. He said the large-scale drive reflects the Delhi Government’s commitment to providing safer and smoother roads for residents.
The Minister also stressed that the government’s infrastructure policy is centred on quality, accountability and long-term durability. He noted that newly constructed PWD roads now come with a five-year maintenance provision, making contractors responsible for rectifying defects during the warranty period, while strengthened quality control measures have been put in place to improve construction standards.
The special campaign is part of the Delhi Government’s broader pre-monsoon preparedness plan aimed at enhancing road conditions, improving commuter safety and ensuring durable, citizen-centric infrastructure across the national capital.
