New Delhi: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday reviewed the quality and maintenance progress of 1,759 kilometres of National Highways in Manipur during a high-level meeting with officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), and project contractors in New Delhi.
The review was undertaken following feedback received through media reports and social media platforms. Gadkari stressed the need for timely project execution, adherence to strict quality standards, and the use of advanced technologies to build sustainable and efficient highway infrastructure.
The minister said improved road connectivity is crucial for boosting economic growth, enhancing commuter convenience, and strengthening regional development. He also directed officials to ensure comprehensive monsoon preparedness, including preventive measures and robust response systems, to maintain road safety and protect highway infrastructure during the rainy season.
The review forms part of the Centre’s continued focus on strengthening transport infrastructure and improving connectivity in the Northeast region.
