Chandigarh: In a bid to strengthen law and order across Punjab, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav has directed all field units to enhance police presence and intensify patrolling through strategic checkpoints, mobile patrols, vehicle checks and area domination exercises across the state.

Chairing a high-level virtual review meeting with senior police officers, Range DIGs, Commissioners of Police and Senior Superintendents of Police, the DGP reviewed the crime situation and outlined key policing priorities aimed at ensuring a secure environment and boosting public confidence.

DGP Yadav instructed district police chiefs to increase the number of nakas and conduct thorough vehicle checking while deploying maximum force on the ground to deter criminal activity and maintain a robust security network.

Reviewing the Punjab Government’s flagship anti-drug and anti-gangster campaigns, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ and ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’, the DGP highlighted a renewed focus on dismantling financial networks supporting the drug trade. He said Punjab Police is targeting illegal hawala operators allegedly routing drug money through Middle Eastern countries to Pakistan and vowed strict action against those involved.

Emphasising people-friendly policing, the DGP also directed CPs and SSPs to strengthen engagement with citizens by holding regular meetings with local associations, residents and Village Defence Committees. The initiative aims to reinforce police-public partnership and improve community participation in maintaining law and order across the state.
