SARIMUL LASKAR, SILCHAR:- A fierce fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon in Santoshnagar Colony of Panchgram area in Hailakandi district, completely reducing a residential house to ashes within minutes. The blaze also destroyed cash amounting to nearly ₹3.5 lakh kept inside the house, along with furniture, gold jewellery, clothes, and all household essentials, leaving the family completely ruined.
According to local sources, the fire suddenly erupted around 2 PM when no one was present inside the house. Local residents noticed thick smoke and flames and immediately rushed to the spot to douse the fire. However, the intensity of the blaze was so severe that the entire house was engulfed within a very short time, spreading panic across the neighbourhood.
Upon receiving information, a fire tender from Badarpur Fire Station rushed to the spot. Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control after considerable effort. By then, everything inside the house had been reduced to ashes.
The house belongs to Ranjeet Das. Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire may have originated from an electrical short circuit, though the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed. Police and the fire department have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
Family members of Ranjeet Das said the ₹3.5 lakh was their hard-earned savings. The sudden tragedy has pushed the family into severe financial distress. Local residents have expressed sympathy and assured help to the affected family.
The incident has once again raised concerns about electrical safety in the area. Locals have demanded stricter monitoring of electrical wiring and better fire safety measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
