Chandigarh/Amritsar: In a major counter-terror operation, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence wing in Amritsar has arrested two alleged associates linked to a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI)-backed module and recovered two hand grenades from their possession.
The accused, identified as Ajay and Jodhbir Singh, were intercepted near Loharka Road in Amritsar following specific intelligence inputs about suspicious movements linked to foreign-based handlers.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations indicate the recovered grenades were part of a larger conspiracy aimed at targeting government institutions and critical infrastructure to disrupt peace and law and order in Punjab.
Police also seized a black Hero Splendor motorcycle allegedly used by the accused for operational movement.
According to the DGP, the accused were allegedly acting on directions from foreign-based operatives who had supplied the explosives and instructed them to coordinate with another associate in the region.
A case has been registered under the Explosive Substances Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar. Further investigations are underway to trace the network’s forward and backward linkages and identify other operatives connected to the module.
