New Delhi: Delhi Social Welfare and SC/ST/OBC Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh called on Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on his birthday and held detailed discussions on key public welfare and development issues, including revival of water bodies, land ownership rights for rural families and pending development works.

During the meeting, the Minister raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of ponds, lakes, johads and other traditional water sources in Delhi due to encroachment, pollution and neglect. He urged a time-bound action plan for cleaning, de-silting, redevelopment and integration of water bodies with rainwater harvesting systems, particularly in the Bawana Assembly constituency.

The Minister also stressed the need to improve basic civic infrastructure such as drinking water supply, roads, sewerage and drainage facilities in Delhi’s villages, colonies and settlements.

A major focus of the discussion remained the long-pending issue of land ownership rights for weaker sections, Dalits, backward classes and economically weaker families residing on lands allotted under schemes of 1975-76. Shri Singh urged that eligible families and their legal heirs be granted ownership rights and that the matter be incorporated into Master Plan Delhi-2041.

The meeting also reviewed pending land-related matters linked to the Delhi Development Authority, with the Minister calling for coordinated and time-bound action to speed up delayed development works. He suggested regular review meetings and appointment of nodal officers to ensure faster resolution of issues.

Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu assured that the concerns raised would be addressed on priority, while the Minister expressed confidence that positive action would provide major relief to poor and deprived communities across Delhi and accelerate development projects in the city.
