India: Delhi LG, CM Honour Top Students at SGGSCC Annual Day

New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta honoured meritorious students during the 42nd Annual Day celebrations of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce on Wednesday, highlighting the pivotal role of youth in shaping a developed India.

The event began with a ceremonial guard of honour for the dignitaries, who later presented medals and degrees to students excelling in academics, sports and social service. Awards were also conferred in categories such as Best Student of the Year, Best Sportsperson, Best NCC Cadet and Alumnus of the Year.

Addressing the gathering, Lt Governor Sandhu praised the college’s four-decade legacy and said the institution continued to inspire students through the teachings of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, while promoting nation-building and social responsibility. He urged students to remain adaptable in an increasingly digital and competitive world, stressing the importance of continuous learning and skill development.

“India is passing through a period of immense opportunity, and the youth will play the most crucial role in realising the vision of a developed India,” he said, encouraging students to contribute towards inclusivity, environmental responsibility and ethical leadership.

Quoting the Gurbani line “Man Jeete Jag Jeet”, the Lt Governor called upon students to embrace self-discipline, determination and clarity of purpose in their personal and professional lives.

Following the ceremony, Sandhu interacted with students and encouraged them to share their ideas openly. He said the enthusiasm, creativity and confidence displayed by young people reflected the country’s promising future.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta congratulated the award-winning students and described their achievements as a reflection of dedication, discipline and perseverance. She said educational institutions such as SGGSCC were playing a vital role in nurturing leadership, public service and value-based learning among students.

The Chief Minister said the Delhi Government remained committed to modernising the education sector by strengthening digital infrastructure, promoting innovation and expanding skill-based education to make students future-ready.

“The youth of the country are India’s greatest strength in the journey towards becoming a developed nation, and the Delhi Government is making continuous efforts to provide them with better opportunities,” she said.

Delhi Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, senior university officials, educationists, parents and a large number of students also attended the event.
