New Delhi (Chandan Singh, Page 3 News bureau ): Shri C.R. Patil, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister for the Ministry of Jal Shakti, emphasized the importance of community involvement in conserving and rejuvenating India’s rivers. Speaking at the Rashtriya Nadi Sangam 2025 event organized by the Bhartiya Nadi Parishad (BNP), Patil noted that while the government is taking strong steps to address river pollution, true success will only be achieved through collective action by the people.
The event, aimed at restoring river ecosystems and promoting sustainable river-based livelihoods, saw participation from over 650 attendees, including students, farmers, women from self-help groups, and local river workers. Dignitaries included Pujya Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Acharya Balkrishna, and Padma Shri Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, renowned for his river restoration work in Punjab.
Dr. Raman Kant, President of BNP, highlighted key proposals, such as establishing a Nadi Vishwavidyalaya for river studies and creating River Cooperative Societies for grassroots conservation efforts. Patil underscored the need for individuals to adopt simple, sustainable habits and contribute to a pollution-free river system.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar echoed these sentiments, linking the deep cultural bond between India’s rivers and its civilization, urging collective responsibility in safeguarding these sacred lifelines. Acharya Balkrishna advocated for organic farming to reduce river contamination from chemicals, while Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal shared his successful efforts to restore the Kali Bein river, showcasing the power of public participation.
