New Delhi: In a historic step, Delhi’s Education Minister, Shri Ashish Sood, has announced a transformative decision to grant recognition to private unaided schools operating in non-conforming areas of the city. This long-pending issue, which had denied thousands of students their constitutional right to education, has now been resolved under the leadership of Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta.

For over a decade, many schools in non-conforming areas remained unrecognized due to bureaucratic delays and selective discrimination by past governments. However, the new policy ensures that these institutions, which serve countless students, will now be brought under the Directorate of Education (DoE) for official recognition. This move is set to benefit around 500 schools, ensuring they comply with educational standards, infrastructure safety, and teacher qualifications.

The recognition process, which begins on November 1, 2025, is expected to generate 20,000 additional seats for children from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Disadvantaged Groups (DG), and Children with Special Needs (CWSN), addressing a critical shortage of recognized schools in Delhi. With this reform, the Delhi government aims to fulfill the promise of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 (RTE Act), ensuring every child has access to quality education, regardless of location.

Minister Sood emphasized that this decision marks a significant departure from previous discriminatory practices and reinforces Delhi’s commitment to inclusive and equitable education. Under this initiative, schools will be held accountable, and parents can now be assured that enrolling their children in recognized institutions guarantees safety, legitimacy, and access to government benefits.

This landmark policy is set to redefine the landscape of education in Delhi, making it more accessible, transparent, and fair for all.
