— PROMPT AND ALERT ACTION TAKEN HAS AVERTED A MAJOR INCIDENT: DGP GAURAV YADAV

— DETAILED INVESTIGATION ON TO ASCERTAIN SOURCE AND DESTINATION OF RECOVERED ARMS AND AMMUNITION: SSP ASR MANINDER SINGH

CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR: In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Rural Police has busted a Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Module with links to Pakistan and recovered a cache of sophisticated weapons and huge quantity of ammunition from village Ghonewal, near the Ravi river close to the Indo-Pak border, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Tuesday.

The recovered arms and ammunition include two AK-series assault rifles along with eight magazines, one .30 bore pistol along with two magazines and 50 live cartridges of .30 bore and 245 live cartridges of 7.62 mm.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the prompt and alert action taken by the Punjab Police has averted a major incident, especially in view of recent inputs regarding increased activity of Pak-sponsored terrorists and inter-gang rivalries in border areas.

The DGP said that further investigation is underway to expose the full nexus, including the backward and forward linkages of the network.
