
Swami Vivekananda was born on 12 January 1863 in Kolkata. His real name was Narendranath Dutt. He was born into a prosperous and educated family, due to which he received good values and education from childhood. His father, Shri Vishwanath Dutt, was an Attorney in the Calcutta High Court. He was very intelligent, knowledgeable, generous, benevolent and protector of the poor. Swami Vivekananda emphasized the importance of self-confidence, self-discipline and selfless service as pillars of personal and social development. His teachings encourage individuals to develop a holistic approach to life, integrating spiritual values with practical actions. The key teachings of Swami Vivekananda include self-confidence and fearlessness, character building, service to humanity, and holistic education (physical, mental, spiritual development), which focuses on awakening the inner potential of the individual and bringing about positive changes in the society, such as ‘Arise, awake, and stop until the goal is achieved’.
