Countering the newspaper’s portrayal of Russia as “economically weak” and “vulnerable to sanctions,” the embassy said such claims were baseless and reflective of “mindless copying of Western talking points”.

The Russian Embassy in Pakistan has launched a scathing attack on The Frontier Post, a Pakistan-based English-language daily, accusing it of publishing a “series of anti-Russian articles” and spreading “Western propaganda” against Moscow.

In a strongly worded statement posted on X, the embassy said the publication’s stance had taken an overtly anti-Russian tone.

The embassy questioned the newspaper’s Pakistani identity that deliberately selected articles “from ardent Russophobes”.

“We have taken note of a series of anti-Russian articles published in the English-language Pakistani newspaper, The Frontier Post,” the embassy said. “To start with, we would like to emphasise that this periodical can hardly be called ‘Pakistani,’ given that its global news service is headquartered in Washington.”

The statement alleged that the paper’s editorial board consistently chose content critical of Russian foreign policy and leadership, leaving no space for balanced reporting. “Recently, it has been impossible to find a single article in the international section of the newspaper that portrays Russia or its leadership in a positive or even neutral light,” the embassy noted.

While reaffirming respect for press freedom, the embassy argued that The Frontier Post’s content had crossed into propaganda. “The current barrage of anti-Russian articles containing standard Western propaganda and lacking any alternative viewpoint makes one wonder whether the editorial board’s policy is based on a political agenda promoted by anti-Russian forces rather than on freedom of speech.”

The embassy also criticised it for its coverage choices, pointing out its failure to report on the Moscow Format of Consultations on Afghanistan held on 7 October 2025. The event, which was covered widely across Pakistani media, was reportedly “completely ignored” by the Frontier Post.

“It is bewildering that the newspaper, which devotes an entire section to news about Afghanistan, completely ignored the Moscow Format of Consultations,” the embassy said, calling it evidence of “the Russophobic nature of the Westernized editorial office”.

No official statement or response has been issued by The Frontier Post so far.

MOSCOW DEFENDS ITS ECONOMIC STRENGTH

Countering the newspaper’s portrayal of Russia as “economically weak” and “vulnerable to sanctions,” the embassy said such claims were baseless and reflective of “mindless copying of Western talking points”.

It went on to present data highlighting what it described as Russia’s resilience under sanctions. “Despite facing enormous external pressure, which is unprecedented in the history of any country, the Russian economy has demonstrated steady progress. In 2024, Russia’s GDP increased by 4.1 per cent, with certain sectors, such as manufacturing, growing by up to 8.5 per cent,” the embassy said.

Russia also cited its low unemployment rate of 2.5 per cent and a projected inflation rate of 6.5–7 per cent for 2025 as indicators of economic stability.
