London/Quetta: Republic of Balochistan has announced the proposed design of its national currency, the “Balochi Falus,” while reiterating its demand for international recognition as an independent state.
In a post on X dated June 20, the group claimed that it had already laid the foundations of statehood by introducing a national flag, passport, anthem and governing institutions. It also asserted that Balochistan possesses vast natural resources and strategic seaports, which it said could support a prosperous independent economy.
The statement claimed that the proposed currency would symbolize sovereignty, economic independence and national pride, adding that the group’s envisioned 2027–28 national budget would be presented in the new currency. It also invited public feedback on the currency’s design before its proposed printing and circulation.
The post further appealed to the international community to recognize the Republic of Balochistan as a partner in trade, investment, energy and regional security, while using the slogan “#BalochistanIsNotPakistan.”
The announcement comes amid the long-running insurgency in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, where groups have for decades sought independence, citing political marginalization and disputes over the region’s natural resources. Pakistan rejects these claims, considers Balochistan an integral part of the country, and designates armed separatist organisations operating in the province as terrorist groups.
