CM distributes bicycles to 200 Class 9 girls; Ashish Sood hails major push for self-reliance and school education
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday distributed bicycles to 200 Class 9 girl students from Zone 7 of North Delhi under the ‘Vidya Vahini Yojana’, describing the initiative as an important step towards making education more accessible, convenient and empowering for girls.

The bicycles were distributed at the Delhi Assembly premises, with the initiative aimed at easing students’ daily commute, saving travel time and helping them continue their education with greater confidence and independence.
Interacting with the students, CM Rekha Gupta said a bicycle was not merely a mode of transport but a means of supporting girls’ education and enabling them to pursue their aspirations. She emphasised that distance from school or transportation difficulties should not become barriers to a girl’s education.
Under the scheme, around 1.40 lakh Class 9 girl students are set to receive bicycles this year. Gupta said investment in girls’ education was an investment in the brighter future of society and reaffirmed the Delhi Government’s commitment to providing girls with modern educational facilities and equal opportunities.
Encouraging the beneficiaries, the Chief Minister urged them to use the facility to strengthen their education, set ambitious goals and move forward with confidence. She said the government’s broader objective was to provide students with quality education along with a supportive and enabling environment in which they could pursue their dreams without hindrance.
Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood said school education in the national capital was moving towards “historic change” under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Sood said distributing bicycles to girl students was not simply about providing transport, but represented an important step towards helping them become self-reliant, overcome barriers and pursue their aspirations. He also expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for her continued support and commitment to women’s empowerment.
Through the Vidya Vahini Yojana, the Delhi Government is seeking to ensure that no girl student is left behind in her educational journey, while strengthening access, confidence and self-reliance among young students.
