CHANDIGARH/SAS NAGAR/PATIALA: Punjab Police has stepped up security preparations for Independence Day 2026, with Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav directing officers to deploy a robust security grid at major celebration grounds and maintain heightened vigilance against potential threats.

On the second day of his state-wide security review tour, DGP Gaurav Yadav visited SAS Nagar and Patiala on Tuesday and chaired Range-level law and order meetings with senior officers, Station House Officers (SHOs) and field personnel. The review was conducted as part of preparations mandated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

The DGP issued operational directives focusing on threat perception, counter-terrorism preparedness, security of celebration venues and the prevention of any breach of law and order. He also stressed the need for seamless coordination among police units to maintain peace and harmony across the state.

Beginning his second-day tour in SAS Nagar, Yadav chaired a comprehensive meeting with officers of the Rupnagar Range, covering SAS Nagar, Rupnagar and Fatehgarh Sahib. He directed officers to ensure close coordination, visible policing and a swift and decisive response to any emerging challenge.

Interacting directly with police officers and personnel, the DGP heard their inputs and urged them to remain alert, confident and fully committed to their responsibilities.

Yadav subsequently travelled to Patiala, where he held a detailed security review with officers of the Patiala Range, covering Patiala, Sangrur, Barnala and Malerkotla.

The meeting focused on meticulous security planning, particularly the deployment of a robust security grid at main Independence Day celebration grounds, along with proactive community engagement.
