Chandigarh/Amritsar/Jalandhar/Ludhiana: Punjab Police has stepped up security preparations ahead of Independence Day-2026, with Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav directing district police chiefs to intensify patrolling, surveillance and preventive measures across the state.

During a whirlwind tour of Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana, DGP Yadav chaired Law and Order Review Meetings with officers of the respective commissionerates and police ranges, assessing security arrangements in sensitive areas, major public congregation points, urban locations and vital installations.

In Amritsar, the DGP reviewed security preparedness in sensitive border areas and ordered heightened vigilance, stronger patrolling and surveillance, enhanced preventive measures and robust crowd management. He stressed the need for seamless coordination across the security grid and rapid response to emerging challenges.

Moving to Jalandhar, Yadav reviewed preparedness of the Jalandhar Commissionerate and Range, covering Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and SBS Nagar. He emphasised heightened vigilance, flexible deployment of forces and swift response mechanisms to ensure people can celebrate Independence Day peacefully and without disruption.

The DGP also directed officers to strengthen inter-district coordination, maintain high-visibility nakas and ensure round-the-clock surveillance to prevent any breach of law and order. He engaged directly with district police chiefs and Station House Officers (SHOs), stressing that personnel must remain alert, accessible and responsive to citizens.

Concluding his tour in Ludhiana, Yadav reviewed the Independence Day policing plan with officers of the Ludhiana Commissionerate and Range. He directed them to ensure visible and effective deployment of personnel and strengthen security at celebration venues and public gathering points.

The review meetings were attended by Additional DGP (State Armed Police) MF Farooqui, IGP PAP Rajpal Singh Sandhu, CP Jalandhar Satinder Singh, CP Ludhiana Swapan Sharma, CP Amritsar-cum-DIG Border Range Harmanbir Singh Gill, DIG Jalandhar Range Naveen Singla, DIG Ludhiana Range Sandeep Goel and senior police officers from Jalandhar Rural, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, SBS Nagar, Khanna and Jagraon.
