Chandigarh/Amritsar: In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police has arrested four individuals, including a juvenile, in connection with the attack on the Chamiari Police Post in Amritsar Rural, with investigators alleging links to an ISI-sponsored handler operating through social media.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were in contact with an ISI-backed handler and had allegedly received funds to execute the attack. Police have launched further investigations to trace the wider network, identify funding channels and establish both backward and forward linkages.

The arrested accused have been identified as Karanbir Singh alias Gora, Manideep Singh, Pardeep Singh alias Love, and a juvenile. According to the police, unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants had hurled an incendiary object at the Chamiari Police Post, under Ajnala Police Station, on the intervening night of July 21–22.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural) Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said special teams were constituted immediately after the incident. Acting on human intelligence and technical inputs, investigators identified and apprehended the suspects.

Police said Manideep Singh and Pardeep Singh allegedly conducted reconnaissance and planned the attack, while Karanbir Singh and the juvenile are accused of carrying out the assault. Efforts are underway to recover the motorcycle allegedly used in the incident.

The SSP further said preliminary findings indicate that ISI handlers are allegedly attempting to recruit and radicalise unemployed youth aged 15–25 through social media to carry out anti-national activities in Punjab’s border districts.

A case has already been registered at Ajnala Police Station under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the investigation is continuing to identify all those involved in the alleged conspiracy.
