Dol Prasad Aryal was elected unopposed, being the sole candidate for the post, backed by his party’s strong majority. The next session of the House is scheduled for Monday afternoon, where Dol Prasad Aryal will preside over proceedings.

Dol Prasad Aryal, vice president of Nepal’s Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has formally taken charge as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. He was sworn in on Sunday by President Ramchandra Paudel at a ceremony held at Kathmandu’s Shital Niwas.

Soon after taking oath, Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal assumed office, with his election earlier in the day formally announced in Parliament. He was elected unopposed, being the sole candidate for the post, backed by his party’s strong majority. The next session of the House is scheduled for Monday afternoon, where Dol Prasad Aryal will preside over proceedings.

A JOURNEY ROOTED IN STRUGGLE

Dol Prasad Aryal’s journey has been anything but easy. Born in 1974 in Maidi village of Dhading district, he left home for Kathmandu in 1992, chasing the hope of a better life. His early days in the city were tough — he worked at a restaurant, washing dishes and cleaning tables just to get by.

With time, he slowly climbed up, moving from odd jobs to working as a tourist guide. His journey then took him to Japan, where he spent nearly eight years, gaining experience and a broader outlook. After returning to Nepal, Dol Prasad Aryal stepped into business, investing in tourism, education and remittance services, creating jobs along the way. He later rose to become the chief executive of a remittance company.

Alongside business, Dol Prasad Aryal remained active in social work. He contributed to the construction of a community hospital in Kalikot and played a role in relief efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the distribution of oxygen cylinders.

He entered politics in 2022 with the formation of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. As a founding member, he quickly rose within the party ranks and became a close aide to party chief Rabi Lamichhane. He also served as acting president during a period of internal crisis.

He was elected to Parliament from Kathmandu constituency-9 and later served as Minister for Labour and Employment. Though his first tenure was brief, he returned to the same role when the party rejoined the government.
