Claims Resource-Rich Region Has Strategic Future Beyond Pakistan
New Delhi: Baloch political commentator and activist Mir Yar Baloch has renewed calls for international recognition of an independent Balochistan, arguing that the region’s vast natural resources, strategic coastline and geopolitical significance position it as a future regional power.
In a post on X, Mir Yar Baloch contrasted Balochistan with Pakistan, describing the latter as an “artificial state” while portraying Balochistan as a historic nation with thousands of years of civilizational heritage. He asserted that Balochistan possesses extensive reserves of minerals, including gold, copper, oil, gas and uranium, which could underpin a strong independent economy and defense capability.
The activist also highlighted the strategic importance of the coastal city of Gwadar, claiming that maritime assets operating in the region ultimately belong to the people of Balochistan. He argued that the region’s long coastline and geographic location make it vital for trade, security and regional connectivity.
Calling on governments across Europe, Asia, the Gulf and North America to reassess their engagement with Pakistan, Mir Yar Baloch urged the international community to support what he described as the “recognition of the Republic of Balochistan.” He claimed that an independent Balochistan would offer significant diplomatic, trade and defense opportunities to countries that recognize its sovereignty.
The remarks reflect longstanding demands by sections of the Baloch nationalist movement, which has advocated greater autonomy or independence from Pakistan, while Islamabad maintains that Balochistan is an integral part of the country and rejects separatist claims.
