‘Saath Nibhayein, Pradushan Ghataayein’ campaign to turn awareness into action across Delhi till March 2027

New Delhi: Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has stepped up the capital’s fight against air pollution by calling upon citizens, industries, institutions and communities to become active partners in the Government’s clean-air mission.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the guidance of Sirsa, the Delhi Government has launched a comprehensive citywide Information, Education and Communication (IEC) and Awareness Campaign, titled “Saath Nibhayein, Pradushan Ghataayein”. The campaign will run from September 2026 to March 2027, with the aim of converting environmental awareness into meaningful action.

Sirsa said the Government was working with “utmost seriousness” to tackle air pollution through stronger enforcement and comprehensive measures, but emphasised that cleaner air could not be achieved by the Government alone.

“Every citizen, every institution and every stakeholder has an important role to play,” the Environment Minister said.

Led by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), the campaign seeks to build a sustained public movement involving government departments, educational institutions, industries, communities and residents. The initiative will focus on awareness, behavioural change and collective responsibility alongside regulatory and enforcement measures.

Sirsa Pushes Partnership Over Pollution

Under Sirsa’s guidance, the campaign will engage schools and colleges, Resident Welfare Associations, markets, industries, construction stakeholders, Bulk Waste Generators, farmers, vehicle owners and citizens through workshops, community programmes, sensitisation drives, capacity-building sessions and field-level activities.

The outreach will be strengthened through newspaper advertisements, hoardings, posters, radio jingles, street plays, booklets and other interactive activities aimed at making pollution-related information practical and actionable.

Sirsa also stressed the importance of balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility.

“Development and environmental responsibility must go hand in hand,” he said, describing industries, institutions and commercial establishments as important partners in Delhi’s journey towards cleaner air.

Industry Gets Special Focus

The DPCC has already conducted multiple district-level workshops across Delhi’s industrial areas, bringing together industrial associations, individual units and other stakeholders.

The workshops addressed Online Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (OCEMS), Air Pollution Control Devices (APCDs), DG-set compliance and other prescribed pollution-control norms.

The Government’s approach, Sirsa said, is aimed at moving beyond enforcement towards greater awareness, compliance and partnership, encouraging industrial units to adopt cleaner and more responsible practices.

Ground Action Already Underway

The campaign has begun with ground-level initiatives involving various departments and stakeholders.

The Transport Department conducted awareness activities covering PUC compliance, vehicular pollution, timely vehicle servicing, responsible disposal of End-of-Life Vehicles, cleaner fuels, electric vehicles and the Delhi EV Policy.

The Delhi Traffic Police also conducted a road-safety awareness programme involving 300 students.

With the campaign continuing until March 2027, Sirsa’s clean-air initiative seeks to make pollution control a shared responsibility, bringing citizens and key stakeholders into the heart of Delhi’s environmental efforts.

“Saath Nibhayein, Pradushan Ghataayein” aims to take Delhi’s pollution battle from awareness to action — and from government-led enforcement to a wider public partnership for cleaner and healthier air.
