Jalandhar/Chandigarh: Punjab Police has foiled a major terror plot with the arrest of an alleged operative linked to the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), recovering an improvised explosive device (IED) packed with 1.3 kg of high explosives, shrapnel and ball bearings, officials said on Sunday.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the operation, carried out jointly by Counter Intelligence (CI) Jalandhar and Jalandhar Rural Police, dismantled an ISI-sponsored BKI terror module allegedly being operated by foreign-based handlers. He said the recovery of the IED pointed to preparations for a high-impact attack intended to disturb public peace, adding that timely police intervention averted a major terror threat and protected innocent lives.

The arrested accused has been identified as Satbir Singh, a resident of Padiana village in Adampur, Jalandhar. Police also seized the black Platina motorcycle he was allegedly using during the operation.

According to the DGP, intelligence inputs indicated that the suspect had retrieved a consignment of explosives on the directions of foreign-based handlers. Acting on the information, joint police teams set up a checkpoint near Dhandaur village, intercepted the suspect, and recovered the explosive device from a bag in his possession.

Police said investigations are continuing to trace the module’s forward and backward linkages, identify foreign handlers, and uncover any local support network involved in the alleged conspiracy.

A case has been registered at Patara Police Station in Jalandhar Rural under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Explosive Substances Act, and the Arms Act.
