NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday inaugurated the ultra-modern Jayaprakash Narayan Public Library developed by NDMC, describing libraries as the true barometer of a nation’s future and urging young people to embrace reading as a pathway to personal growth and national progress.
The new knowledge centre at Udyan Marg houses more than 35,000 books and journals, offers access to over one crore e-books, and features dedicated research facilities, a children’s zone, a multipurpose auditorium, free Wi-Fi and an RFID-enabled book management system linked to the National Digital Library of India. Shah said that “a nation’s future is shaped not by agriculture, markets, or industry alone, but by the crowds of young people gathering in its libraries,” while calling for an integrated network of libraries and stronger ties between libraries and schools across Delhi.
Recalling the formative role of libraries in his own life, the Home Minister appealed to Delhi’s youth to make full use of the new facility and enrich themselves through reading, contributing thereby to the vision of a self-reliant and developed India by 2047. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta hailed the library as a landmark gift for students and competitive examination aspirants, expressing confidence that it would inspire generations of young learners.
