Chandigarh/Ferozepur: Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) Ferozepur, in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF), has busted a major cross-border narcotics smuggling module, arresting two people and recovering 30.200 kg of heroin, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Saturday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Walle Shah Uttar village in Fazilka, and Manpreet Singh, a resident of Nawan Hasta village in Fazilka. Police also impounded the Hero Deluxe motorcycle (PB-05-AS-9856) allegedly being used for the smuggling operation.
According to DGP Yadav, investigators are now working to establish the forward and backward linkages of the cross-border smuggling network and identify others connected with its handlers.
AIG CI Ferozepur Gursewak Singh said the operation was launched following a specific intelligence input. A joint Punjab Police-BSF team intercepted the two suspects near Satirwala village on the Hindumalkot road in Fazilka and recovered the heroin from their possession.
The police said further arrests and recoveries are expected as the investigation progresses.
A case, FIR No. 14 dated August 7, 2026, has been registered at Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Fazilka, under Sections 21-C, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
