Chandigarh/Amritsar: Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit in Amritsar has arrested three alleged operatives linked to the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International and seized six hand grenades, 12 sophisticated pistols and live ammunition in a major anti-terror operation. Police said the suspects were apprehended while transporting the cache in a Hyundai i20 intercepted near the Bharatmala Bypass Highway on the Amritsar–Chogawan road.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were acting on the directions of a foreign-based smuggler allegedly backed by Pakistan’s ISI and overseas BKI handlers. The trio, all residents of Kakkar village in Amritsar, were allegedly planning activities aimed at disturbing public peace in Punjab. The impounded vehicle and seized weapons are now part of an ongoing probe to trace the network’s forward and backward linkages. A case has been registered under the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
