New Delhi: Delhi has recorded 137 Clean Air Days till August 4, surpassing the 130 clean air days registered during the same period last year, marking a significant improvement in the capital’s air quality as the government steps up its anti-pollution campaign.

The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 64, remaining in the ‘Satisfactory’ category for the fifth consecutive day, while Vivek Vihar reported a ‘Good’ AQI of 43, reflecting the impact of targeted pollution-control measures.

Highlighting the achievement, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa credited the sustained improvement to scientific planning, coordinated action by multiple agencies and greater public participation in adopting environmentally responsible practices.

“The steady improvement in Delhi’s air quality reflects sustained planning, scientific interventions and round-the-clock efforts. Our vision is to make Delhi one of the cleanest and greenest capitals in the world,” Sirsa said.

The Delhi Government intensified its pollution-control drive over the past 24 hours by lifting and scientifically disposing of 2,243 metric tonnes of construction and demolition waste, issuing 11,797 challans for vehicular pollution violations, and processing 12,277 metric tonnes of legacy waste through biomining at the Bhalswa, Ghazipur and Okhla landfill sites.

Dust mitigation also remained a key focus, with 81 mechanical road sweepers covering nearly 2,502 kilometres of roads and collecting around 169 metric tonnes of dust for scientific disposal. Authorities continued dust suppression, hotspot monitoring and coordinated traffic management to reduce vehicular emissions.

Appealing for greater public participation, Sirsa urged residents to avoid open waste burning, maintain vehicles responsibly, reduce unnecessary vehicle use, plant more trees and keep neighbourhoods clean, saying collective action is essential to transform Delhi into a cleaner, greener and healthier global capital.
