New Delhi: The Delhi Government has intensified work on upgrading more than 7,400 Economically Weaker Section (EWS) flats at Bhalswa, with Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood inspecting the ongoing repair and expansion project aimed at providing modern, dignified housing to slum residents.

During the site visit, Sood reviewed construction progress and said the government is redesigning older, pre-built homes to meet updated living standards on the lines of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY). The initiative includes expanding the carpet area of each flat by four to five square metres to improve living conditions while ensuring efficient use of public funds.

The minister said the project is being implemented in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and described it as part of the government’s commitment to fulfilling “Modi Ki Guarantee” for affordable and quality housing.

Sood, who had earlier inspected the Bhalswa project in February, said the latest visit focused on ensuring that rooms, flooring and overall layouts are spacious enough for comfortable family living.

Highlighting the scale of the project, the minister said the upgraded housing scheme covers over 7,400 flats and that allotments will be carried out in phases after completion of the works. He added that a joint inspection with the Chief Minister will be held before final approvals are taken in consultation with the Union Home Minister and senior leadership.

The Delhi Government said the upgraded EWS housing project is part of its broader effort to provide improved urban housing infrastructure and better living standards for economically weaker families residing in slum clusters.
