New Delhi: Delhi Cooperation Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh has launched an ambitious plantation drive targeting 10,000 saplings across the national capital, urging citizens to make tree planting a collective mission for a cleaner and healthier future.

Inaugurating the campaign at Village Dhoolsiras in Dwarka under “Sahkar Se Samriddhi – Cooperative Week 2026”, Singh said plantation is “not merely an environmental activity but a commitment towards securing a better future for coming generations.” He appealed to every resident to plant and nurture at least one sapling to help make Delhi greener and significantly reduce pollution.

The plantation programme, led by the Department of Cooperation, will cover Narela, Dwarka, Rohini and other locations identified by the Forest Department, with active participation from cooperative institutions, local communities, voluntary organisations and government officials.

Highlighting the government’s broader environmental vision, the minister said Delhi has set a target of planting more than seven million (70 lakh) saplings this year. He expressed confidence that coordinated efforts across departments and strong public participation would substantially improve the capital’s green cover and strengthen environmental conservation.

Minister also stressed the importance of planting fruit-bearing and biodiversity-friendly tree species, saying they would not only improve air quality but also provide food and habitat for birds and urban wildlife, helping restore Delhi’s ecological balance.

The minister said the initiative reflects the vision of Narendra Modi for “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” and is being implemented under the guidance of Amit Shah, while complementing the Delhi Government’s efforts under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to expand green spaces and combat pollution.

The week-long “Sahkar Se Samriddhi – Cooperative Week 2026” also features public outreach programmes, quiz competitions and community participation initiatives, culminating in a closing ceremony on July 6, where outstanding contributors to the cooperative sector will be honoured.

If you’d like, I can also rewrite this in a sharper The Times of India front-page style with a stronger international appeal.
