New Delhi: In a push to strengthen Delhi’s sporting ecosystem, Delhi Education and Sports Minister Ashish Sood met World Junior Girls Squash Champion Anahat Singh and Commonwealth Games silver medallist boxer Lovlina Borgohain, reaffirming the government’s commitment to developing world-class sports infrastructure and nurturing young talent.
Congratulating both athletes for their international achievements, Sood assured them of the Delhi government’s full support in expanding grassroots sports facilities and creating greater opportunities for aspiring sportspersons across the capital.
During the meeting, Delhi’s squash sensation Anahat Singh, fresh from her historic World Junior Girls Squash Championship triumph, discussed measures to popularise squash among young athletes. The Minister pledged to strengthen grassroots programmes and improve access to quality squash infrastructure to help emerging talent compete on the global stage.
Olympic bronze medallist and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Lovlina Borgohain, now based in Delhi, highlighted the need for advanced boxing training facilities and expressed her willingness to mentor the next generation of boxers. Sood assured her that the government would work closely with current and former athletes to modernise sports infrastructure, upgrade training centres and promote a stronger sporting culture in the national capital.
The Minister concluded the meetings by wishing both champions continued success and expressed confidence that their achievements would inspire more young Indians to pursue excellence in sport.
