New Delhi: Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Tuesday paid rich tributes to B. R. Ambedkar, describing him as a steadfast champion of equality and social justice, on the occasion of his 136th birth anniversary.
Speaking at a commemorative function held at the Delhi Vidhan Sabha premises, Gupta highlighted Ambedkar’s enduring legacy as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, calling it a visionary document that continues to guide the country’s democratic framework. He noted that Ambedkar’s ideas remain highly relevant in contemporary times.
The event saw a large turnout, including women safai karmcharis, reflecting widespread respect and admiration for the leader’s contributions to Indian society.
Emphasising the need to uphold Ambedkar’s ideals, the Speaker said his vision continues to inspire efforts towards building an inclusive, just and equitable society. He underlined the importance of integrating these principles into governance and public life.
Gupta also pointed out that Ambedkar’s birth anniversary has been declared a gazetted holiday in recognition of his immense contribution to the nation. Awarded the Bharat Ratna posthumously, Ambedkar, he said, will always be remembered for his unparalleled role in uplifting the downtrodden.
