SARIMUL LASKAR SILCHAR: In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown against drugs and illegal intoxicants, Gumra Police have achieved a major success. On Thursday, during a routine checking at Kalainchhara Naka Checkpoint, a large consignment of suspected foreign liquor was recovered from a goods-carrying truck, creating a stir in the entire area.
According to police sources, officers stopped a truck bearing registration number AS-11DC-9055 during regular naka checking and conducted a thorough search. During the inspection, a substantial quantity of suspected foreign liquor, cleverly concealed inside the vehicle, was discovered. The liquor was immediately seized, and the truck was also taken into police custody.
Two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident. The arrestees have been identified as Nazim Uddin Mazumdar and Ajmal Hussain, both residents of Hailakandi district. The seized liquor along with the two detainees are currently in the custody of Gumra Police.
Police officials stated that the exact quantity and market value of the recovered liquor are being ascertained, while verification is underway to check whether any valid documents exist for the consignment. An investigation has also been launched to uncover possible links to a larger smuggling racket.
A senior officer of Gumra Police said, “We will continue to intensify naka checking and special drives to curb the smuggling of illegal drugs and foreign liquor through border-adjacent areas and National Highway 6.”
This successful operation is being seen as a strong message against drug trafficking in the region.
