New Delhi: Taking governance directly to the people, Delhi PWD and Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh continued the ‘Government on Wheels’ campaign with an extensive inspection of key infrastructure projects across East Delhi, reviewing long-pending civic works, waterlogging mitigation measures and future development plans.

Accompanied by local MLAs, senior officials and engineers, the Minister visited the Patparganj Highway stretch and Jhilmil Underpass, two of Delhi’s long-standing monsoon waterlogging hotspots. He assessed drainage improvements, desilting operations and engineering interventions aimed at ensuring smoother storm-water discharge during heavy rainfall.

Highlighting the impact of coordinated efforts by the Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and the Irrigation & Flood Control Department, Singh said several development projects that had remained pending for over a decade were now progressing at an accelerated pace through continuous monitoring and inter-departmental coordination.

As part of the development drive, the Minister announced that Laxmi Nagar will get a modern skywalk to improve pedestrian safety and traffic movement at one of East Delhi’s busiest junctions. He also said the Delhi Government would expand the use of precast storm-water drains across East Delhi to deliver faster, more durable and long-term drainage solutions.

Emphasising the city’s changing approach to urban infrastructure, Singh said that 80–90 per cent of Delhi’s waterlogging problem has already been addressed, with permanent engineering solutions being implemented at the remaining critical locations.

Reaffirming the objective of the ‘Government on Wheels’ initiative, the Minister said the campaign ensures governance reaches the grassroots through on-site inspections, direct public interaction and close monitoring of projects to ensure timely and efficient execution of development works.
