Chandigarh/Ferozepur: Punjab Police, in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF), has foiled a major cross-border narcotics smuggling attempt in Ferozepur, recovering 44.5 kg of heroin and 3 kg of methamphetamine, commonly known as ICE.

The seizure was made in the border area of Gajniwala village following a specific intelligence input received by Counter Intelligence (CI), Ferozepur. According to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, the narcotics consignment had been airdropped from across the border using a drone.

Police and BSF teams launched a joint cordon and search operation after receiving information about drone movement near the India-Pakistan border. A thorough search of the surrounding agricultural fields led to the recovery of the consignment.

Inspector General of Police, Counter Intelligence, Ashish Choudhary, said investigators were working to identify both the cross-border handlers who sent the drugs and their Indian associates who were allegedly tasked with receiving the consignment.

The investigation is also focused on establishing the forward and backward linkages of the suspected international drug-smuggling network.

A case, FIR No. 19 dated August 25, 2026, has been registered against unknown persons at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Fazilka, under Sections 21C and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The operation comes amid the Punjab government’s ongoing drive to make the state drug-free under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
