Videos posted on social media platform X showed PTI workers and Imran Khan’s sisters gathered around their sibling Noreen, who appeared visibly shaken. Aleema Khan remarked, “Those women were dragging her on the road,” as Noreen’s hands trembled in the footage shared by Imran Khan’s party.

Imran Khan’s sisters have demanded an impartial investigation after alleging they were subjected to a “brutal” police assault and dragged through the streets while protesting outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. The incident took place last week as they gathered to seek a meeting with the jailed former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, who has been in custody since August 2023.

One of Imran Khan’s sisters, Noreen Niazi, filed a formal complaint with Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar, referring to the event as a “brutal assault” on peaceful PTI protesters. The protest followed the authorities’ refusal to permit family visits to Imran Khan, a restriction in effect for over a month.

According to the PTI, Aleema Khan, Dr Uzma Khan, and Noreen were “sitting peacefully” outside Adiala Jail when police allegedly intervened. The party claims that the sisters, along with other supporters, were “violently detained” by law enforcement during the protest.

Videos posted on social media platform X showed PTI workers and Imran Khan’s sisters gathered around Noreen, who appeared visibly shaken. Aleema Khan remarked, “Those women were dragging [her] on the road,” as Noreen’s hands trembled in the footage shared by PTI.

In a statement released on Monday, PTI confirmed that Noreen had submitted her complaint to the Punjab Police chief, detailing what she described as “brutal assault and unlawful detention of peaceful citizens.” The sisters have urged the Inspector General to initiate proceedings against all police personnel involved in the incident.

An undeclared government ban on meetings between Imran Khan and his family has been in place for more than a month. Even Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was reportedly denied access to Khan despite making seven consecutive attempts, according to statements attributed to Khan which claim jail authorities were under military control.

Meanwhile, unverified claims about Imran Khan’s death circulated widely on social media, with one account alleging he had been “murdered” in Adiala Jail today. These claims remain unsubstantiated and have not been confirmed by any official agency.

Protests outside the jail intensified as the family continued to face restrictions on visitation and raised concerns about Khan’s welfare.

Following the circulation of the unverified rumours, media reports claimed that thousands of PTI supporters stormed the Rawalpindi jail.
