NEW DELHI: Health and Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh has stepped up Delhi’s green campaign, leading a plantation drive at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park in Kunwar Singh Nagar, Vikaspuri, and calling on citizens to become active partners in building a greener and healthier capital.

Participating alongside local residents, Dr. Singh highlighted the Delhi Government’s ambitious target of planting 70 lakh saplings across the national capital. More than 50 lakh saplings have already been planted, he said, reflecting the growing momentum behind the campaign.

Emphasising that plantation must go beyond numbers, Dr. Singh said the real challenge was to ensure that saplings survived and matured through proper protection, watering and regular care.

“Planting a tree is only the first step; our real responsibility begins with protecting it and ensuring that it grows into a healthy tree,” Dr. Singh said, underlining his focus on long-term environmental sustainability.

He urged every citizen to take ownership of the campaign by planting trees and caring for them. Drawing inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, Dr. Singh appealed to residents to dedicate trees to their mothers and contribute to strengthening Delhi’s green cover.

The Minister particularly encouraged residents of Vikaspuri and other parts of Delhi to participate actively in plantation drives and make tree protection a shared community responsibility.

“Let us pledge to make our neighbourhoods greener and healthier,” Dr. Singh said, stressing that every sapling nurtured today would help create a healthier environment and a better future for coming generations.

Dr. Singh also appreciated the enthusiastic participation of local residents, saying community-led plantation initiatives would reinforce Delhi’s collective commitment to environmental conservation.

With more than 50 lakh saplings already planted, the campaign is advancing towards its 70-lakh target, with Dr. Singh placing strong emphasis on citizen participation, sustained tree care and a greener future for Delhi.
