New Delhi: In a significant administrative reform aimed at strengthening Delhi’s healthcare system, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has recommended the transfer of 39 doctors who have been posted in Tihar and Mandoli jails for five years or more, seeking approval from Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
The proposal is part of a broader effort by the Delhi Government to improve human resource management, enhance accountability and ensure the optimal deployment of medical professionals across healthcare institutions. The list includes both specialist doctors and General Duty Medical Officers (GDMOs), with some having remained at the same posting since 2014.
Alongside these transfers, the government has proposed the deployment of around 35 other doctors to fill the vacancies, taking the total number of recommended transfers to approximately 74.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the move reflects the government’s commitment to building a more efficient, responsive and citizen-centric healthcare system. She emphasized that regular reviews of postings and balanced utilisation of human resources are essential to improving service delivery and strengthening institutional capacity.
The Chief Minister noted that the initiative follows a recent large-scale restructuring in the Central Procurement Agency (CPA) under the Health and Family Welfare Department, where over 40 medical, paramedical and administrative personnel were transferred to streamline procurement and administrative functions.
According to the Delhi Government, the latest transfer proposal is part of a wider reform agenda focused on ensuring the availability of skilled manpower across all units of the Health Department, improving governance standards and delivering quality healthcare services to residents of the national capital.
