New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday carried out a surprise inspection of ongoing works at RK Ashram Marg Metro station under Phase-4 of the Delhi Metro, directing officials to adhere strictly to timelines, maintain construction quality and uphold safety standards.

Reviewing progress with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation officials, Gupta said RK Ashram Marg was being developed as a major interchange hub linking the operational Blue Line with the Magenta Line on the 28.92-km Line-8 corridor from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg.

She said sections between Janakpuri West and Krishna Park Extension, and Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park, had already opened, while work on remaining stretches was progressing rapidly. The corridor, passing through densely populated parts of West, North and Central Delhi, is expected to ease congestion, cut travel times and reduce pollution.

Highlighting engineering challenges, the Chief Minister praised progress on nearly 7 km of twin tunnels and six underground stations, including difficult works in Sadar Bazar and tunnelling beneath active railway lines, the Rani Jhansi flyover and the Red Line corridor.

Gupta also reviewed plans to extend the Magenta Line from RK Ashram Marg to Inderlok via Indraprastha, strengthening connectivity to Central Delhi and the Central Vista. Once complete, the Botanical Garden-Inderlok corridor will span about 88.4 km with 65 stations, becoming the longest and fully driverless corridor in the Delhi Metro network.

Calling the Metro the capital’s “lifeline”, Gupta said delays or negligence would not be tolerated and stressed that the project must be delivered on schedule while minimising inconvenience to the public.
